Short answer: the Liugong CLG856 (and the 956 that shares its bucket teeth) is a 5-tonne-class wheel loader, one of the most common Chinese loaders in Iran, Iraq and Central Asia. Its tooth is held to the adapter with a pin and washer, and the adapter itself comes in a two-bolt and a weld-on version. Know your adapter first

Two buckets on two CLG856 loaders can carry different adapters. Look at the top of the adapter on the bucket lip:

• Two bolts through the lip: a bolt-on adapter. It can be changed in the field with a wrench.
• No bolts, weld bead around the base: a weld-on adapter. It needs cutting and welding to replace.

Size and weight

For reference, DM's special-alloy price list gives the 856 tooth at about 6.95 kg. Market teeth for this loader generally weigh between 5.5 and 7 kg; a much lighter tooth usually means less wear metal and a shorter life.

ZF parts come in alloy grades: Normal for ordinary soil, Special for abrasive, silica-rich ground, and Mining for quarry and rock work. Not every ZF part is made in every grade; the product page lists the grades actually available for that part. DM uses one standard alloy (some models also have a reinforced version) and has no mining grade.

Why teeth fall off and how to stop it

1. Worn adapter nose: the tooth rocks, the pin shears. Replace the adapter when the nose is rounded.
2. Old pin and washer: fit new ones with every tooth.
3. Loose bolts on a two-bolt adapter: re-torque after the first shift and check weekly.
4. Wrong tooth: some sellers push "universal" teeth; if the pocket does not match the 856 nose, it will not stay.

Two-bolt or weld-on, which is better?

Two-bolt is faster to change in the field; weld-on is stiffer and preferred in heavy rock. Keep whatever your bucket was built with.
